What is pez luna?

Pez luna, also known as Mola mola, is a large, bizarre-looking ocean sunfish that inhabits tropical and temperate waters around the world. They are the heaviest of all bony fish, with some individuals reaching weights of up to 5,000 pounds.

Their most distinctive feature is their flattened, oval-shaped body, which can grow up to 10 feet in length. They have a truncated tail and their dorsal and anal fins are elongated, giving them a distinctive appearance.

Pez luna are primarily pelagic, deep-sea dwellers that feed on a diet of small fish, jellyfish, and zooplankton. They are known to be curious and approach boats, making them a popular sight for divers and snorkelers.

Despite their large size, pez luna are not considered a threat to humans. However, they are vulnerable to threats such as pollution, overfishing, and bycatch in fishing nets. Conservation efforts are underway to protect these unique and fascinating creatures.
